After recording the year's lowest amount in October at B/.293.58, the cost in metropolitan area supermarkets rose to B/.297.52 in November and closed December at B/.298.97. The analysis conducted by Acodeco also included establishments by routes, covering mini-supermarkets and grocery stores. In addition to the total amounts, the institution discloses the contribution of each supermarket chain to the average cost variation and the price differences between the surveyed outlets. In this sector, costs showed a fluctuating trend: in October it stood at B/.348.07, slightly decreased in November to B/.345.84, and increased in December to reach B/.351.18. In total, 52 supermarkets and 37 retail stores were visited, while the institution's regional agencies conducted their respective monitoring in the rest of the country. Acodeco maintains these constant follow-ups to provide timely data on price evolution. These verifications are carried out by the Department of Price Information and Verification (Diprev), which evaluates the lowest prices of the 59 products that make up the basic basket. The coverage of these operations included strategic sectors such as Bella Vista, Betania, Juan Díaz, Parque Lefevre, Pueblo Nuevo, San Francisco, Santa Ana, Calidonia, Panamá Este, and San Miguelito. This work aims to provide citizens with objective tools to make more efficient consumption adjusted to their budget.
Acodeco Reports Increase in Basic Food Basket Costs at End of 2025
According to the latest Acodeco monthly monitoring, the cost of the basic food basket in Panama and San Miguelito showed a consistent increase in November and December 2025 after reaching its minimum in October.
