The technology industry in the region is undergoing an evolution driven by artificial intelligence, the expansion of 5G networks, and access to high-performance devices at competitive prices. MediaTek, a Taiwanese firm, has solidified its leadership in the smartphone market in Central America and the Caribbean, closing 2025 with an average market share of 54%, according to IDC data. In countries like Costa Rica, this figure reached 46%, while in other neighboring markets it approached 60%. This position is a result of constant innovation in processors for both 4G and 5G devices, as well as the company's ability to integrate AI and energy-efficient features across all product ranges, making it the preferred strategic partner for manufacturers in the region. So far in 2026, MediaTek has unveiled next-generation components such as the Dimensity 9500s, designed to support Large Language Models (LLMs) and offer generative AI experiences. It also introduced the Dimensity 7400X, specialized in photography and gaming with AI support, and the Dimensity 6400, focused on bringing 5G performance to more affordable segments. The executive concluded that strategic alliances, such as strengthening satellite emergency services and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, will allow digitalization to continue to be a key driver for inclusion and regional economic development.
