Anti-War Theater and Latin Ancestry: 'Echoes of Greece' Festival in Panama

In Panama, the 'Echoes of Greece' festival will feature a double bill in December. The second edition of the 'Living Greece: Echoes of Greece in Panama' festival will be held at the City of the Arts with two theatrical productions directed by Venezuelan Costa Palamides. The play intertwines dramatic texts with poetry from Nezahualcóyotl (Mexico) and José Antonio Ramos Sucre (Venezuela), as well as traditional songs and original compositions by Pantelis Palamidis. The show, which premiered four years ago in Greece, showcases Palamides' work, who, over his 30-year career, has staged over 50 theatrical works from the 'Great Homeland'.

'Troyanas': An Anti-War Humanism On December 4th at 7:30 PM, Euripides' 'Troyanas' will be performed, considered one of the author's most important tragedies. The play, adapted for three performers with speaking masks, combines the essence of Greek theater with a marked Latin American experience. The production incorporates intertexts with poems by César Vallejo (Peru), Luis Palés Matos (Puerto Rico), Federico García Lorca (Spain), and traditional songs from the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. The anti-war piece examines the consequences of war through the humanity of its characters, leaving a moving impression.

'The Gods and the Farewells': A Monologue of the Great Homeland On December 5th at 4:30 PM, Costa Palamides himself will present a master class and the one-person show 'The Gods and the Farewells (Latin America in my voice)'. A production of the Latin American Repertory Theater (Teatrela), this show traverses representative milestones of theatrical ancestry, from the Popol Vuh of the Mayans and the Ollantay of the Quechuas, to the eloquence of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Mexico) and the Cuban avant-garde of Virgilio Piñera. The cast is formed by Peggy Bousounis (Cassandra), Erick Molino (Talthybius), and Costa Palamides (Hecuba/Andromache).
