The Governor of Panama and manager of this program, Mayín Correa, said that the novelty this time is that those who hand in their weapons can exchange them for home appliances. The 'Weapons for Food' program will have three activities this month, two in Panama and one in Colón. In Panama, the hand-ins will take place on Friday, December 19, at the Grand Station and at the Los Pueblos shopping center on Monday, December 22. The Governor said that a couple of weeks ago, a thousand weapons were burned by the police, and what they seek with these activities is for violence to move away from the neighborhoods and for peace to reign, as is typical for this time of year. As always, the Governor invited people to hand in the weapon they carry with complete discretion, as absolutely nothing will be asked. These items will be added to the medicine and food that are usually given to those who bring their weapons. Correa highlighted that the novelty is being held at this time because during the Christmas season, buying home appliances is part of Panamanian culture. The hand-in in Colón will be on Monday, December 15, at the city's Cultural Center, where they hope to have better success than the last activity, which did not go very well.
