Panama's Government Lights Up for Christmas

The Government of Panama lit up its historic building for Christmas. The governor emphasized the spirit of humanity and announced plans for concerts and charitable events.

The Government of Panama, located in one of the historic buildings of La Exposition in Calidonia, held its light switch-on on Friday evening, as part of the Christmas festivities. Governor of the province, Mayín Correa, highlighted that along with the Government, the adjacent Porras Park was also illuminated. An opportunity was also given to entrepreneurs and informal workers to exhibit and sell their products to the attending public. The Government building, inaugurated in 1916 for the National Exhibition of Panama on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the discovery of the 'Southern Sea', was declared a historical monument on May 22, 1996. The fire department and the Panamanian Chinese school's bands participated in the light switch-on ceremony. She added that last year they held a Christmas dinner for 100 homeless people, and this year they will hold it again as a way to share, even if just once a year. Correa announced that they will try to hold Christmas concerts during the month, as well as other attractions. 'The essence of Christmas is an act of humanity towards the rest of the citizens or those who are closest to us,' said the governor.
