A fire broke out in the basement of Vivendi Tower 300 in Loma la Pava, Panama City, around 2:00 a.m. Monday. Residents of the affected tower and Tower 400 were evacuated after toxic smoke spread up the stairwell, causing panic among neighbors. Firefighters responded with 25 units, two fire trucks, two ambulances and three pickup vehicles. They have contained the blaze and are now cooling, ventilating and assessing damage. "The smoke woke me up, so I called my neighbors to evacuate, but some ignored the warning." Fortunately no one was injured, but the cooling and ventilation work continues.
