Firefighters Assess Metro Line 3 Safety

Colonel Víctor Raúl Álvarez and team inspected Panama City’s Metro Line 3 for safety measures as construction progresses towards its 2025 launch.

Colonel Víctor Raúl Álvarez, general director of the Benemérito Fire Corps of the Republic of Panama, along with Lieutenant Colonel José Batista, led a working tour of the facilities of Line 3 of the Panama Metro. The visit began at the Metro's headquarters, where they received a detailed explanation about the operation and logistics of the project.

Accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Cirilo Castillo, national director of DINASEPI, Colonel Ricardo Gibbs, first commander of the regional zone of West Panama, and other officials, they discussed safety measures for both workers and future passengers of Line 3 once it becomes operational.

The first stage of this ambitious project aims to be completed by August 2025. The possibility is being considered for the company Mi Bus to take care of transporting passengers from Panama Pacifico to the Albrook terminal and vice versa, while the construction of the tunnel under the Panama Canal is finalized, scheduled to be completed in 2028.

In the workshop yard, a complete structure has been set up with sprinklers, fire extinguishers, and water tanks to prevent fires and enable immediate extinguishing in case of emergency, covering an area of 26 hectares, of which 17 are designated for construction.

The tunnel boring machine has already begun the excavation of the tunnel and has been placing the segments as it passes beneath the Canal, making this project the most monumental work in all of Central America.
