To commemorate the International Day of the Girl, the brand Dove carried out a special event in Panama as part of its global program, the Dove Self-Esteem Project. The initiative focused on a clear purpose: to inspire a deep and positive change in society regarding how girls are praised, seeking to promote compliments that emphasize their qualities, talents, and achievements, which contributes to the development of a strong sense of self-esteem. During the event, Dove volunteers visited four educational centers in the country: Panamerican School, Instituto Justo Arosemena, Instituto Chino Panameño, and the Pedro J. Ameglio School. In Panama, the brand reaffirms its commitment to the emotional well-being of new generations, promoting spaces where girls and boys learn to value themselves as a whole. María Alejandra Torres, Commercial Manager of Unilever, emphasized the need for this cultural change. By shifting the focus of compliments to reasons of greater value, it contributes to girls «growing up secure in their worth and everything they can achieve». The central message of the initiative is that when you praise a girl by calling her «beautiful and strong» or «creative and kind», it expands her perception of her own value and capabilities. This need is backed by studies showing that between the ages of 3 and 5, girls already place more importance on their appearance than boys. This reality highlights the urgency of fostering a culture where girls recognize their full potential, beyond unrealistic beauty standards. The Dove Self-Esteem Project is recognized as the world's largest self-esteem education program, having reached more than 137 million young people in 153 countries through free resources and workshops developed in collaboration with experts. In these spaces, they shared with students reflections on the impact that words have on self-esteem and personal development. The work sessions were attended by psychologists and renowned local content creators.
