This is due to the fact that the Pediatric Specialty Hospital, located on Vía España, completely closed last June. After one year since the Pediatric Hospital was inaugurated in the City of Health, 69,800 outpatient consultations and 54,000 emergency care services have been provided. First was the Oncology Hospital, and now a new building will be added to the City of Health for pediatric emergency care. Now, the contract will include the construction of this new building for pediatric emergencies, which will be in charge of the same consortium. Its construction will take between 12 and 18 months, which will allow for the expansion of pediatric specialist coverage 24 hours a day. At the end of June of that year, the Oncology Hospital was inaugurated in the same facility, which remained inoperative until April of this year, when it began to treat oncology patients. Marcos Young, national executive director of Health Services and Benefits, communicated that the same consortium that built the City of Health will be in charge of the construction of the tower, through an amendment to the contract, and at an estimated cost of more than 3 million dollars. Amendment The Panamanian Hospital Construction Consortium, made up of Riga Services, Aprocosa, and Construction Management Group, took on the completion of the construction of the City of Health, which was inaugurated in January 2024. The original concept of this hospital complex is the care of critical patients; however, unlike the adult population, which has the emergency room of the Hospital Complex, in the case of children, they do not have backup. It will have two levels and will include five pediatric emergency consultation offices, an observation room with 14 beds, specialized areas for rehydration, inhalation therapy, and isolation, in addition to a pharmacy and phlebotomy. This new facility cost $228 million, which raised the total amount of the City of Health to $1,228 million. Dino Mon, general manager of the Social Security Fund (CSS), reported on the start of construction of the emergency tower, which will be located on a surface of 1,605 square meters.
