The Public Ministry of Panama conducted an inspection in the Pedregal area's drug storage facility due to the disappearance of approximately 19,000 doses of fentanyl from the social security system. The case spans the years 2022 and 2023, during which the loss of the medication was reported. The investigation, which is still ongoing, remains focused on clarifying what happened to the missing doses. On Thursday morning, the Public Prosecutor's Office carried out a procedure in the controlled substances area in Pedregal. The case dates back to 2022, when the loss was reported at the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex. Since then, the investigation has remained open. The inspection was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office at the drug storage center. According to their explanation, the objective was to review how medications were dispatched and what the controls were at that time. They also verified the dispatch logs corresponding to the years under investigation. Authorities are seeking to determine whether adequate controls were in place during that period or if there were failures that allowed the theft of the fentanyl. The procedure included a review of records and internal procedures related to these controlled substances. For now, the Public Ministry has confirmed that no one has been detained or charged in this case.
