Nando Boom: Music is a metamorphosis you can't tie down

For Panamanian singer Nando Boom, music is not just art but a divine inspiration that cannot be constrained. "This is our music. It interprets itself," says the artist, one of the founders of Spanish-language reggaeton. After a career spanning over 40 years that has earned him recognition, Nando Boom confidently speaks of his legacy: "I see that I can leave a legacy. You see the fruits, which you also take into account and how important they are." His journey began in the 1980s in Panama, where he, along with colleagues like 'El General' and Vico C, adapted Jamaican rhythms like dancehall into Spanish. This genre eventually evolved into what is now known as reggaeton. Nando Boom believes Panamanian music has earned its recognition, calling it "poetic justice." Despite his success, he remains true to himself: "As long as I have a voice, I'm going to keep singing and interpreting and making music." He is now working on new collaborations, including a project with Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades.
