Nataly Delgado Retains World Title in Panama

Panamanian champion Nataly Delgado successfully defended her interim WBA super flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Mexican Arlenn Sánchez. The Santiago boxing night also featured multiple quick victories and knockouts by boxers from Veraguas.


Panamanian boxing was in the spotlight during the Boxing Challenge Championship Night event held on Saturday at the Villa Magna hall in the city of Santiago. The event, organized by the Municipality of Santiago under the leadership of Mayor Erick Jaén and supervised by the WBA, brought together hundreds of fans who enthusiastically celebrated every round and every victory.

The main event of the evening was a world title defense. 31-year-old Panamanian boxer Nataly Delgado from Veraguas, representing Los Algarrobos de Santiago, successfully defended her interim world super flyweight title. Delgado won by unanimous decision over Mexican Arlenn "La Torita" Sánchez. The 10-round fight kept the audience on edge until the final bell. Delgado managed to impose her rhythm, technique, and power, convincing the judges and maintaining her world champion status, thus solidifying her position in the elite of Panamanian women's boxing.

The judges gave Delgado a clear victory on the scorecards (99-90, 98-91, and 99-90). The Panamanian champion's record is now 19-7-2 (5 KOs), while her Mexican opponent's record is 8-8-4 (1 KO).

The rest of the evening was also marked by triumphant victories and knockouts, especially by boxers from Veraguas:

• Abdiel González, from Chitra, Calobre, kicked off the event with a strong performance, defeating Marcos Reyna of La Chorrera by knockout at 36 seconds of the first round. • Veraguense Bienvenido Rodríguez, from Santa Fe, defeated the Chorrerano Jafet Araúz by technical knockout at 59 seconds of the fourth round in a 4-round fight in the 135-pound division. • Chorrerano Adrián Morales secured a quick victory by technical knockout over Veraguense Roy Hernández at 11 seconds of the second round in a 4-round bout in the 135-pound division. • Young boxer Iker Canto, from the district of Cañazas, technically knocked out Víctor Rodríguez of La Chorrera at the five-minute mark of the first round in a 4-round fight. • Maximiliano Bonilla, another emerging talent from Veraguas, showed determination and power by defeating Colombian Jhoynnier Cervera by technical knockout at just 5 seconds of the sixth round in an 8-round fight. • In the 115-pound division, Chorrerano Leroy Estrada defeated Veraguense Ronal "Gallito" Batista by technical knockout in the sixth round of an 8-round fight.
