The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of Panama reported that the investment project for the rehabilitation of the La Villa–Macaracas highway has reached a physical progress of 42.2%. According to the official, this project will meet the needs of over 50,000 users who travel daily on this artery, considered vital for the economic movement of the Azuero region. In the most recent work sessions, crews have focused on the placement of the base layer, application of a prime coat, and the installation of the asphalt layer. Furthermore, work is being done on the construction of gutters, complying with the stages established in the activity schedule to ensure a more effective and lasting connectivity in the country's productive and tourist sectors. This infrastructure project, carried out through private contracting, involves an investment of over B/. 28,788,000. In addition to the renewal of the roadway surface, the project includes the construction of 11 vehicular bridges, the optimization of the storm drainage system, and the construction of new sidewalks and bus stops. These improvements are aimed at raising safety standards for residents and passersby in the area. The social impact of the project is direct for more than 15 communities situated along the route. These populations depend on commercial, agricultural, and tourist activities that are limited by the current state of the road, but which will find new development opportunities with the renovated infrastructure. Iván Espino, regional director of the MOP in Los Santos, stated that the work is advancing at a good pace and is part of the national plan for improving the road network.
