The Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) reports on the progress of the Comprehensive Mine Audit. According to the fourth monthly report from the international auditing firm SGSPanama Control Services Inc., the audit has achieved 66.37% completion. To date, the audit remains on schedule. The reviews conducted include a detailed verification of operational procedures, environmental management measures, and control mechanisms, as well as a direct comparison between documented information and on-site conditions. This process identifies improvement opportunities and provides a factual basis for evaluating the fulfillment of established commitments. Unlike the previous three reports, which focused on documentation, work plan structuring, and information gathering, this fourth report incorporates a deeper technical analysis of specific subprocesses and on-site verification. This strengthens the structured identification of risks and adds greater solidity to the evaluation process. The report also identifies potential environmental risks associated with the prolonged storage of extracted material deposits, particularly concerning the stockpiling of low and medium-grade materials, runoff control, and infrastructure currently in a state of care and maintenance. It suggests additional preventive measures, such as removing and processing this stored material, based on rigorous technical criteria to mitigate risks to water bodies, environmental liabilities, and infrastructure deterioration.
