On January 9, 1964, a group of teachers marched to the former Canal Zone in Panama to demand full sovereignty. To commemorate this event, they have called for the planting of Panamanian flags in the reverted areas of the Panama Canal on January 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
This call aims to reject what they consider an imperialist and neofascist threat from Donald Trump, as well as to denounce the complicity of the 'local gang of oligarchic lackeys'.
*"It is important to remember our history and fight for the sovereignty of our country. Planting our flags is an act of resistance and a call for unity against any attempt at foreign or local oppression,"* stated one of the organizers of the march.
This action is expected to gather broad participation from citizens committed to defending national sovereignty and against any form of interventionism that threatens the interests of the Panamanian people.
