On January 1, 2026, several incidents occurred on the road leading to the communities of Lake Gatúny in Costa Abajo. Two fallen trees and two traffic accidents were the most notable events of the day.
One of the trees fell in the area known as Batería 35, at the dividing section of the road between the districts of Escobal and Ciricito, which leads to the district of Chagres. The second fallen tree was reported in the district of Achiote, Chagres.
Due to these fallen trees, there were disruptions to the electrical system. Security forces were dispatched to the scene to clear the road, while the electric company worked to restore service.
Regarding the traffic accidents, the first one occurred near the community of Villa del Caribe, in the district of Cristóbal Este. In this incident, a taxi collided with a bus. The taxi suffered the most damage, with its front end being wrecked.
The second accident was reported at the bus stop in Puerto Escondido, Cristóbal. On this occasion, a white sedan crashed into an electrical pole and overturned from the impact. The occupants of this vehicle were treated by the emergency ambulance system and the Colón Fire Department.
