Three Fire Crews Deployed in West Panama

Three fire crews have been deployed by the Meritorious Fire Corps of the Republic of Panama (BCBRP) in strategic points in West Panama, where the highest incidence of wildfires (IMAVE) has been recorded in recent years. The personnel, indicated Ricardo Gibbs, chief commander of the BCBRP regional command, the first remains in the district of Chame to cover the beach area and the Inter-American Highway. A second crew has been assigned to the district of La Chorrera and a third is stationed in the Veracruz district, in the Arraiján area. He added that the crews are mostly made up of volunteer personnel, who have basic implements to control wildfires. According to the fire corps' statistics, the province of West Panama is among the areas with the highest number of IMAVE cases each year. In 2025, the "red shirts" responded to more than 334 wildfire cases in this province, which consumed improved pastures, forests, and other areas with vegetation coverage. Additionally, the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) has proposed a strategy to anticipate and reduce risks associated with IMAVE, which involves the National System of Civil Protection (SINAPROC), the National Police (PN), and the Civil Aviation Authority. The objective is to work in a coordinated manner to ensure a timely, effective, and efficient response to possible wildfire events in the province of West Panama.
