Panama authorities urge caution due to heavy rains

December 16, 2025: Authorities are coordinating security actions for year-end festivities.

The Panama Hydro-Meteorological Institute (IMHPA) reports that the morning will begin with widespread cloud cover, especially in the East, where intermittent rains are expected in Panama Este, the Gulf of Panama, Darién, and Sambú. Some isolated showers may be felt in parts of Colón, Bocas del Toro, and southern Azuero, while the country's intermediate zone will enjoy a brief daytime warming.

IMHPA has issued a watch for persistent rains until December 18. Authorities are reiterating the call for the public to follow the recommendations of the National Civil Protection System, especially during thunderstorms.

Since the early morning, scattered rains have entered from the coastlines into the Gulf of Panama Este, the Emberá Wounaan comarca (Sambú), the province of Colón, and northern Veraguas. During the morning, a decrease in cloud cover is expected, with partly cloudy skies prevailing, which will allow for slight daytime warming. Temperatures will remain within the usual ranges for the season: not exceeding 30 °C in the West and staying below 29 °C in the center and East.

The IMHPA recommends that the public stay informed through its official channels and social media for any forecast updates.
