Idaan Explains Cloudy Water Issue in Juan Díaz

Panama's Idaan institute stated that cloudy water in Juan Díaz is a temporary effect of network repairs. Residents are advised to run their taps until water clears, as it remains potable.

Idaan Explains Cloudy Water Issue in Juan Díaz

The National Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (Idaan) clarified to residents of Juan Díaz that the problem with cloudy water from their faucets stems from a recent repair operation on the distribution network. Last weekend, IDAAN carried out the 'Panama without leaks' initiative in that sector, aiming to reduce losses and optimize service. Over the past Saturday and Sunday, technical teams repaired more than 60 pipe leaks, an action that increases hydraulic pressure and improves the general supply in the area. 'These interventions are essential to strengthen infrastructure and guarantee water service for homes,' Idaan explained in an official statement. Idaan detailed that in the days following the operation, it is common to see the removal of sediments accumulated in the pipes. This natural process will progressively stabilize as the system normalizes. To accelerate this, the institute applies the 'hydromod' procedure, which consists of opening fire hydrants and valves. This removes sediment trapped in the internal pipes of homes and prevents unnecessary risks. Idaan urges residents to let the water run for a few minutes until it recovers its usual clarity. 'The water supplied meets potability standards once it settles,' the authorities added. Users can report incidents through the 800-Idaan line or the official Idaan app. This type of operation is part of a national plan to modernize the network, which loses about 50% of its water to leaks in some areas.
