Two citizens were transferred to the Hospital in Ciudad Neily, Costa Rica, to receive medical attention. According to SENAFRONT, the attack was allegedly carried out by a man on a motorcycle, who fled after firing the shots. As a preventive measure, authorities have reinforced operations and checkpoints along the border to guarantee citizen security and prevent further violent incidents in the area. SENAFRONT also indicated that the judicial authorities of Panama and Costa Rica will act according to the established international protocols and procedures for this type of cross-border incident. One of the victims, Rafael Beitia Álvarez, was seriously injured. He is wanted by the Public Ministry of the Republic of Panama for a homicide case.
