Rodent Control Reinforced in San Miguelito

Panama's Ministry of Health strengthens rodent prevention in San Miguelito to prevent diseases and improve sanitation. Residents are urged to cooperate.

The Vector Control team of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) is reinforcing prevention and control actions against rodents in various points of the Belisario Frías corregimiento (Urraca Valley), in the San Miguelito district. According to Minsa, the Vector Control team will continue placing baits in previously identified points, with the objective of reducing rodent proliferation, preventing associated diseases, and improving the sanitary conditions of the communities in the corregimiento. "Rodent control is fundamental for disease prevention, and we underline the importance of inter-institutional work and the active participation of the community," highlighted the regional director of Health in San Miguelito, Algis Torres. In this regard, Minsa urges the population to collaborate by keeping their homes and surroundings clean, and by properly depositing solid waste to avoid rodent-transmitted diseases. These tasks include the strategic placement of rat baits and are carried out in coordination with Minsa and the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority (AAUD), as part of the solid waste collection program developed in the district. It should be recalled that this district faced problems with waste collection that worsened in the last months of 2025 due to the low efficiency of the in charge company, Revisalud, which forced the intervention of the Central Government through the AAUD, who is currently in charge of this mission.
