Panama's Ministry of Health invests over 250 million balboas to modernize medical facilities in Coclé province, including a new hospital serving 180,000 residents.

More than 233,000 residents of the Coclé province will benefit from health infrastructure works in the Coclé province, reported Minister of Health Fernando Boyd Galindo at an Expanded Cabinet Council. In delivered works, such as the Tambo Maternal and Child Hospital and the Rio Hato Health Center, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) invested B/.24,097,718.06, benefiting 31,973 inhabitants of these communities. Currently, Minsa is executing B/.214,038,930.95 in Coclé. One of these works is the new Aquilino Tejeira Hospital in Penonomé, which will benefit 180,000 residents of this province, and it is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2027. "This is a turnkey project, so it must be delivered with its medical equipment," said Minister Boyd Galindo. Minsa has planned to invest in the coming months in Coclé more than 12 million balboas for the construction of the La Pintada Maternal and Child Center, a project that will impact more than 18,000 residents of this district. IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR 2026 Within the improvement program for the facilities of the Coclé Health Region, various maintenance and adaptation interventions have been considered, which include: complete replacement of the lighting system, replacement of doors, maintenance of fences and perimeter fences, replacement of bathrooms and sinks with their respective hardware, as well as interior and exterior painting works. These improvements will be carried out in the following health establishments: Sabana, Barreta, Villarreal, San Miguel Centro, San Isidro, Pocri Health Center, Pozo Azul, Antón, El Valle, Copé, Tambo, and Penonomé. Additionally, maintenance of air conditioners and power plants is planned in all installations of the Coclé Health Region. Complementarily, the improvement of ten (10) health posts has been scheduled, with an estimated investment of B/.150,000.00, in which the following works will be carried out: replacement of roof covering, general painting, floor remodeling, replacement of windows and doors, installation of complete sinks, and construction of cream depots. The health posts to be benefited are: Limón del Harino, Limón de la Mina, Bajito de San Miguel, U Centro, Boca de Lurá, Tucué, El Guayabo, San Juan de Turbe, Boca de Toabré, and Platanal. CURRENT AQUILINO TEJEIRA HOSPITAL Within the framework of the Aquilino Tejeira Hospital improvement program, various maintenance and adaptation interventions have been considered, which include: painting of rooms, maintenance of chiller systems, acquisition of an electric generator, purchase of air handlers for hemodialysis, morgue, and laboratory rooms, as well as improvements in the lighting systems of operating rooms, rooms, kitchen, and external areas. The estimated investment for the execution of these works amounts to approximately B/.600,000.00.
