Health Ministry Ensures Safety During Carnivals in Colón Province

During the carnivals taking place in Gatuncillo Norte, in the province of Colón, officials from the Ministry of Health carried out actions such as verifying the chlorination levels in water tankers used for street wetting and monitoring food sales posts. Due to the suspension of carnivals in the city of Colón, many 'Colonenses' have headed to the surrounding villages to enjoy these 'King Momo' festivals. During the tour, environmental sanitation personnel verified the water in the tankers to check for proper chlorination. They also checked the conditions of food at various mobile and permanent stalls along the carnival route, as well as the requirements for food handlers. As a result, three tankers were inspected, which had the necessary permits and corresponding seals from the Ministry of Health (MINSA) with adequate chlorine levels. Additionally, the situation of 18 street vendors was inspected; it was reported that three of these vendors lacked permits and were therefore removed from the carnival route. In other coastal populations of the province of Colón, such as Escobal, Río Indio, Portobelo, and others, their carnival activities are also being held.
