The official reiterated the call for the population to take extreme precautionary measures, especially in coastal areas and rivers, due to changing weather conditions and sea conditions.
Maritime authorities and the Public Prosecutor's Office are advancing investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the shipwreck, while security forces continue search and rescue operations. Rescue teams and units of the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc), in coordination with other security entities, maintain operations in the area with the hope of finding their whereabouts.
Yackzabeth Jiménez, regional director of Sinaproc in Veraguas, reported that with these cases, the number of people who have died by drowning so far this year 2026 in the province amounts to six.
A woman of approximately 35 years old lost her life after a shipwreck that occurred yesterday in the community of Guázaro, while four other people managed to survive the maritime incident.
According to the preliminary report, the stricken vessel had departed from Calovébora, in the coastal area north of the Santa Fe district, when it was hit by a large wave that caused it to capsize.
The 35-year-old woman could not be saved, despite the efforts of those accompanying her. The survivors managed to return to the Calovébora community with the victim's body, where they immediately notified the competent authorities to initiate the corresponding investigations.

Meanwhile, in the Ñurúm district, the search continues for the 11-year-old girl reported missing in the Piragua community.
