The heat situation is serious. The strongest impact will be felt in the western and central Pacific. That is where it will be most intense. The affected areas include Chiriquí, the south of the Ngäbe Buglé region, the southern and central sectors of Veraguas, the Azuero Peninsula, as well as Coclé, West Panama, Panama, and parts of Darién. Heavy days are coming, days when the sun beats down mercilessly. Meteorologist María Cosme explained that there is a high probability of temperatures reaching 35°C, which could push the heat index up to 40°C in some areas. The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama has a heat advisory in effect for the country, valid until Sunday, March 1. There are times of day when the sun beats down directly and radiation increases. The recommendations are clear: avoid prolonged exposure during peak hours, use sunscreen, wear light-colored clothing, caps or hats, and stay well-hydrated. In these areas, the heat will be intense. Although other regions will have more cloud cover, this does not mean total relief. An official warned that ultraviolet rays are still a threat, even when the sky is partially cloudy. Special care should be taken for children, the elderly, and people who work outdoors.
