Panama's MIDA detained over 1.6 tons of plant and animal products for lacking health certification. Main items: sausages, cheese, and eggs from the Dominican Republic and El Salvador.

The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) reported that during the month of February, 1,624.62 kilograms of products were detained at different points of entry into the country for failing to comply with current health regulations.

📎 Products Withheld

According to the entity:

• 1,089.62 kilograms corresponded to products of plant origin; • 535.00 kilograms were products of animal origin.

These were detected during inspections carried out by the Executive Directorate of Agricultural Quarantine.

📎 Products Without Certification Retained by MIDA

Among the seized items of animal origin were:

• Fertile eggs; • Sausages; • Cheese; • Salami.

According to MIDA, these products came mainly from the Dominican Republic and El Salvador and did not have the required health certification for entry into the country.

📎 Call to Travelers and Importers n Authorities reiterated their call to travelers, importers, and users in general not to bring in products of plant or animal origin without the proper health certification.

They warned that failure to comply with these rules could lead to:

• Immediate retention of merchandise; • Administrative sanctions; • Fines.
