Eight deaths and over nine thousand attended during Holy Week

Official reports from Panama's Ministry of Health for Holy Week, April 2-5, 2026, show 8 deaths and over 9,000 people attended. Most cases were medical emergencies, including respiratory issues, abdominal and chest pain. The operation also involved over 700 patient transfers.


Eight deaths and over nine thousand attended during Holy Week

These figures are part of the official report of the operation carried out from Thursday, April 2, to Sunday, April 5, 2026. During the same period, approximately 9,277 people were attended to in hospitals and in the primary care network, as part of the coverage at 137 enabled health facilities. As a result, 3 products were seized and destroyed, in addition to 2 fines and 13 citations. The national coordinator of Emergencies, Vicente Paredes, indicated that the majority of the cases corresponded to medical emergencies, mainly due to respiratory, abdominal, chest pain, and headaches. The report also details 638 cases of trauma, along with 27 burns, 63 food poisonings, and 33 traffic accidents, all attended within the public health system during these days. Regarding patient movement, the Minsa performed 763 transfers for emergencies, of which 438 were by land, 7 by water, 1 by air, and 317 inter-hospital, as part of the operational response. Surveillance actions also included the inspection of 338 food sales points and the verification of 608 handlers, detecting that 106 did not carry an ID card. A total of 8 deaths were recorded during Holy Week, amidst the care provided by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) throughout the country.
