Health Workers Protest Amid Salary Delays

Health workers at San Miguel Arcángel Hospital in Panama are demanding overdue salaries, citing five months without payment. The ongoing issues highlight growing frustrations over government bureaucracies and fiscal crises affecting public healthcare.


The Minister of Health has been the center of criticism from the population, demanding that he set aside promises and fulfill outstanding payments. Citizens argue that their children also have the right to adequate nutrition, like the mentioned Guissepe and Salaão, who have gone four months without receiving their salaries.

In La Chorrera, there are rumors that fifteen employees of Merca Abastos and Merca Público were fired in violation of labor regulations. On the other hand, at Hospital San Miguel Arcángel, staff have gone five pay periods without receiving their salaries, causing unrest among workers.

At the University of Panama, security guards have outstanding payments for several months, which has increased insecurity in the Faculty of Education. Additionally, thefts have been reported at nearby bus stops while the security chief is engaged in other activities.

The increase in retirement age has generated discontent among the population, especially in Colón, where an extension of the Solidarity Plan, which will soon expire, is demanded. On the other hand, the reform of the Social Security Fund law has sparked heated debates, with lobbies of businessmen and workers opposing certain provisions.

Regarding safety, gang members are reported to be illegally evicting apartments in several residential projects. Meanwhile, in politics, some officials are mentioned as potentially being involved in questionable acts.

In the journalistic field, the work of Garrit Geneteau is recognized, who has received recognition from the Panama Journalists' Union.
