State of emergency due to rains in Panama

President Mulino announces a state of emergency due to severe damage from rains and flooding. Repairs to infrastructure will be prioritized. Citizens must follow safety instructions.

President José Raúl Mulino announced the declaration of a national state of emergency in response to the severe damage caused by the rains and flooding. The situation has worsened and there is evidence of an infrastructure crisis with sunk roads, damaged bridges, and destroyed houses.

"We are preserving your lives," declared President Mulino, emphasizing the importance of the safety of the population. The priority is to act urgently in the most affected areas, although the intense rains and saturated ground make repair work difficult.

The president indicated that the emergency declaration will focus on critical points and will be developed transparently to inform the population about the actions to be taken. The government is organizing the cabinet in specific areas to expedite the response, with ministers deployed in the affected zones.

Heavy machinery has been arranged to begin repairs; however, adverse weather conditions pose a challenge. Mulino urged citizens to follow civil protection instructions and to evacuate if necessary to prevent additional risks.

The president called for adherence to the recommendations of the competent authorities and to be alert to the emergency situation. An extraordinary Cabinet meeting was called to coordinate actions and provide an effective response to the needs of the population affected by natural disasters.
