Panama and Italy Strengthen Cooperation

The president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, met with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinal Palace, the seat of the Presidency of Italy. During the hour of talks, both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, education, culture, and scientific development. Mattarella highlighted the bilateral relationship of more than 120 years, expressing Italy's continued support for Panama, especially emphasizing the Panamanian management of the Canal as an example of international collaboration.

Mulino, in turn, expressed Panama's interest in establishing contacts with the European Union through Italy to address discrimination issues. He also underscored the importance of strengthening economic and friendship ties between both countries, proposing the coordination of trade missions to boost trade exchange. Projects like the Panama-David-Border Train and other logistical developments were mentioned in this context.

In the scientific sphere, Mattarella and Mulino discussed cooperation in the Copernicus project to create applications for the benefit of Earth and to address climate change. They also covered topics such as the fight against drug trafficking and the promotion of peace in the world, with special focus on situations like those in Ukraine and Venezuela.

Mulino criticized the lists that label Panama as a tax haven, considering them unfair and inconsistent with the country's active role in the UN Security Council. During his visit to Italy, Mulino expressed his gratitude for being in the land of his grandfather, highlighting the importance of the current situation for Panama.
