Presidential candidate Ricardo Lombana accused the newspaper La Prensa of manipulation and harming democracy. His reaction came after the newspaper issued a statement disassociating itself from the actions of Annette Planells. Following the scandal sparked by revelations from attorney Karisma Karamañites, Corporación La Prensa, S.A. (Corprensa) stated that it does not endorse the actions of its former board member and subsequent president of that media outlet. Lombana stated that La Prensa was fully aware of how the media orchestrated conspiracies to deceive the population with its rigged publications. Earlier, the newspaper explained that Planells' appointment to the board of directors and her subsequent designation as president were carried out 'under three clear and explicit conditions, which she accepted.' Planells was required to cut all ties with the digital medium Foco, suspend any political activism, and address and resolve the conflict of interest arising from her joining the corporation, as her brother, Juan Carlos Planells, served as the company's general manager. La Prensa asserts that Planells herself chose to terminate all relations with Corporación La Prensa, S.A. by failing to meet this requirement. 'The impartiality of La Prensa will not be won by letters from the board of directors washing their hands,' Lombana wrote on social media X.
