Panama Fire Chief Files Identity Theft Complaint

The Director General of the Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de la República de Panamá (BCBRP), Colonel Víctor Álvarez, accompanied by other institution leaders, filed a formal complaint with the Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office for Intellectual Property. The reason was the detection of the unauthorized use of his identity to spread false messages aimed at damaging the institution's reputation.

Álvarez explained that this incident is part of a series of attacks aimed at discrediting the changes and transformations being implemented in the Fire Department, which do not reflect the vocation of service or the values of the firefighting staff.

«With just over a year in office, we have committed to fighting corruption, strengthening transparency, and cleaning up internal processes, and the results of this work are already being reflected for the benefit of the institution and the country,» stated the Director General.

He emphasized that these actions do not come from the majority of the personnel and that it is the good firefighters, with their daily work, who sustain and dignify the institution.

«The Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos is not a space for confrontation; it is a noble, historical, and respected institution dedicated to protecting the life and safety of the community,» he stressed.

At the same time, he warned that internal and external aggressions will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face the corresponding legal consequences.
