President of the Supreme Court of Justice María Eugenia López leaves office amid scandals

According to lawyer Rosendo Rivera, just days before ending his presidency at the highest justice corporation, López leaves more doubts than transparency in his management. He also highlights how the Court presided over by López achieved a juicy salary increase of about 4 thousand dollars, which is only one of his multiple scandals, which also include the hiring of an armored car. The supposed communication between the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, María Eugenia López, and the former president of the newspaper La Prensa, Annette Planells, continues to generate questions, especially as her current term at the head of the Court comes to an end. For Rivera, the fact that López stopped answering Planells' calls implies that there was betrayal. Rivera recalls that in the revelations of lawyer Karisma Karamañites, the name of López appears "as one of the people who was conspiring during the presentation and discussion of the unconstitutionality ruling against the candidacy of Mulino". The lawyer also wonders what the president of a state body was doing in conversations with members of civil society. "And it's no wonder, media such as TVN-2, Telemetro and the newspaper La Prensa magnified her opinions," he added, while recalling how from these platforms she discredited any political target through alleged extortion practices, "evidencing a clear case of media terrorism". From fighting for transparency, he has moved to the firing squad. On the other hand, the lawyer emphasizes that Planells has seen how the perception of honesty and rectitude that surrounded her figure has blurred like water between his fingers. In this sense, he recalls that people who hold public office do not respond to ideals or altruistic objectives, but to personal interests and their disproportionate power ambitions.
