The municipality maintains that these facts could constitute a crime against natural resources, with an estimated economic damage of one million dollars. During December 2025, despite health warnings, the company reduced the service without taking measures to prevent pollution. The President of the Republic acknowledged the health risk and ordered the temporary intervention of the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority (AAUD). Finally, Revisalud terminated its 25-year contract with the municipality on January 18, amidst questioning and criticism from neighbors and authorities. The Ministry of Health even declared a State of Sanitary Alert after inspections revealed outdoor garbage, bad odors, and unsanitary conditions in seven districts. The official technical report indicates a breach of environmental regulations and the concession contract, recommending the definitive termination of the contract.
The Municipality of San Miguelito did not remain silent. On Tuesday, it filed three criminal complaints against Revisalud, the company in charge of garbage collection. The charges range from environmental crimes, through fraud, to money laundering, due to multiple irregularities in the service that, according to authorities, affected the health, environment, and wallets of residents. The complaints were filed by Mayor Irma Hernández and target executives and decision-makers at Recicladora Vida y Salud – Revisalud San Miguel, S.A. Residents complained of reduced routes, delays, and accumulated garbage without justification.
On top of that, the fraud complaint indicates that Revisalud charged in advance for the January 2026 service while reducing collection, directly affecting taxpayers. The case generated public discontent and national media coverage.
