Odebrecht Case Enters Final Phase in Panama

The Odebrecht case in Panama reaches its final stage, with defense lawyers preparing to appeal the use of un-cross-examined testimonies. The prosecution claims sufficient evidence, but missing witnesses weaken their case. The judge will deliver a verdict within 30 days.

In Panama, the Odebrecht case continues, with former President Ricardo Martinelli on trial for money laundering. During the final phase, the defense team, led by lawyer Alfredo Vallarino, announced they will appeal the use of testimonies from witnesses who could not be cross-examined. They argue the judge should not consider these documents. The prosecution, however, claims it has sufficient financial reports to prove the crime, but the absence of key witnesses and experts is undermining their case. The defense will now have one hour each to present their final arguments. Following this, the judge will have 30 days to deliver a verdict in the Odebrecht case. The defense does not rule out other legal actions, such as unconstitutionality claims, if their appeal is denied.
