A 28-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in an abhorrent incident in the Gunayala region. The incident occurred in February 2025 in this indigenous region when the individual sexually abused a 13-year-old adolescent. After committing the act, he gave the victim money to keep her quiet. However, the case came to light later, leading the Gunayala Municipal Prosecutor's Office to initiate a judicial investigation. This led to his arrest and being brought before justice to answer for the grave accusation. During the intermediate stage, the individual opted to accept a plea agreement, admitting his guilt to the crimes of aggravated rape and corruption of a minor. In the hearing, the Gunayala Municipal Prosecutor's Office also managed to have the Court of Guarantees impose an accessory penalty on the sentenced individual, a prohibition from holding public office for a period of 5 years after the main sentence is served.
