“Sabores de Colón” attracts 60 thousand visitors and its entrepreneurs captivate the audience.
In this regard, the regional director of MEDUCA in West Panama, Rufino Rodríguez, stated that the amount of the FECE is the result of multiplying the $60 that schools receive for each enrolled student by the total number of pupils. He added that there are multigrade schools in the province with only 25 students, and the FECE they receive does not allow for major investments, so they depend on the support of the community boards. He also mentioned that another option is to request extraordinary allocations, which is not so easy for small schools, where the director also has students and lacks accountants and secretaries.
Rufino urged the councilors to help schools to the extent that their community boards' budgets allow. “These funds cannot continue sleeping while the schools fall apart,” said Benavides.
The councilors' proposal was made during the monthly meeting of the Provincial Board of Corregimiento Representatives, to which the regional director of MEDUCA, Rufino Rodríguez, was summoned.
Another proposal from the councilors was their lack of knowledge of the amount that enters the FECE of each school each year.
In Herrera, more than 21 thousand students return to school this Monday.
