The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has confirmed, through the head of the ministry, Engineer José Luis Andrade, that the Vereda Afroantillana, an emblematic site in the Rio Abajo district and a stronghold of the descendants of the Caribbean builders of the Panama Canal, will soon disappear as a result of the expansion works of the Vía España. The sudden communication of the fact, without further explanations, as well as all the anticipated impact that the removal of private facilities and the elimination of this important sociocultural space will cause, has generated justified concern and raised the voices of different sectors of the community. «No more Vereda Afroantillana»
