The Ministry of Housing and Land Planning (Miviot), in coordination with the National Police, has launched a series of surprise operations in the Ciudad de Esperanza housing complex, located in the district of Arraiján. The objective of these operations is to detect and stop the improper use of state housing. Among the irregularities found are the rental of apartments to third parties, leaving them unoccupied, and carrying out unauthorized recreational activities in common areas. Ariel Guevara, provincial director of Miviot in West Panama, reported that the necessary summonses are being issued to apply the necessary corrective measures. These actions aim to verify the proper use of the awarded housing and ensure the transparent management of state resources. During the inspections, led by the Social Development Department of the West Panama Regional Office, various preliminary irregularities have been identified. The operations are also accompanied by the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) to safeguard the safety of personnel and residents. Furthermore, the inspections address problems of coexistence caused by excessive noise and the misuse of ground floors, which are legally intended for people with disabilities. As part of the area improvement plans, the ministry projects the creation of a community market that will allow Ciudad de Esperanza residents to acquire basic products at low cost without leaving the area. Guevara emphasized that these behaviors hinder the harmony of the housing complex and will not be tolerated. Currently, the institution is managing three cases of voluntary waiver of the housing benefit.
