In modern society, there has been a regrettable shift from healthy debate to simple disqualification. Instead of proposing alternatives, people focus on highlighting the flaws of their opponents. The lack of values is corroding society from multiple fronts. In business, for example, developers without hesitation pass on costs to buyers, which will eventually lead to a shrinking market and rising prices. Consumers, unfortunately, are always the ones who lose. As children, we were taught to compete fairly, whether on a football field or in an oratory contest. Today, however, fair competition is giving way to a lack of values, primarily honesty and integrity. In politics, meetings in parks and homes have been replaced by social media posts, where it's impossible to verify the information. The author, a civic leader and political analyst, uses this example to emphasize the loss of fundamental values that are the basis of society. Without them, we are heading only for a deterioration of our situation. Everything starts with setting a personal example. The culture of obeying laws and the value of one's word, which was once more important than any written document, is disappearing. The reasons for this include a lack of law and order on the streets, impunity in the judiciary, and prioritizing quantity over quality in public service. Some officials, however, are working for the good of the country, defending its reputation and attracting investment. Returning to business, developers are raising prices for buyers without a second thought, unwilling to share the costs. Back then, competition did not mean 'anything goes.' The root cause, however, is the lack of real values-based education in the country's schools.
