Yesterday, Monday, a hearing was held where the apprehension of Juan José Aizprúa Rodríguez was legalized, who is accused of his participation in violent acts that left the young man Yeison Austin Thompson Díaz seriously injured. The victim's private attorney, Rodney Saavedra, confirmed that charges of attempted homicide were brought against the accused. Additionally, the court ordered the most severe precautionary measure: provisional detention for a period of six months, while investigations advance. Saavedra also highlighted that there are sufficient elements within the medical report that support the seriousness of the case, as the document details that the baseball player received a direct hit with a bat, a forceful blow that endangered his life. This finding was decisive for the process to take a turn, moving from an initial complaint for personal injuries to the current charge of attempted homicide. However, the defense of the accused, represented by attorney Mario Luis Delgado, reacted immediately by showing his disagreement with the judicial decision, and assured that during the process, irregularities that violate due process would have been committed. The jurist also questioned the evaluation of the evidence, alleging that the blow inflicted by his client was not aimed at the victim's head, but at the hand of another player, which, in his opinion, changes the context of the events. In this scenario, the defense filed an appeal that will be argued today Tuesday at 2:30 in the afternoon before the Court of Appeals, where they expect a 'more impartial' review of the case. In sports, yesterday, the Technical Commission of the Panamanian Baseball Federation (Fedebeis) suspended the Veraguas catcher for four years for the offense committed.
