Panama to build new oncology center

Panama's Ministry of Health announces the construction of a new National Oncology Institute building. The $95 million project aims to improve healthcare quality and optimize the City of Health's operations.

According to the Minsa, in 2024, a total of 5,290 people were seen for the first time at the External Consultation of the ION. By province, Panama topped the list with 2,156 patients, followed by Panama West with 854 and Chiriquí with 629. Of the total patients, 71% were insured, while 29% were uninsured. In terms of sex, 3,224 women and 2,066 men were attended. Additionally, it will have a six-level parking building with 272 spaces and 92 external consultation offices distributed in more than 15 clinical specialties. With an investment exceeding 95 million dollars, the new building of the National Oncological Institute (ION) will be built, located in the City of Health, whose completion is expected within an estimated period of 18 to 24 months. It will have a total construction area of 19,670 square meters. This new building will have nine levels of care, an outpatient chemotherapy room with 90 chairs, eight beds for prolonged treatments, a clinical and molecular laboratory for hematology. This project is part of the integration process contemplated in the Minsa–CSS agreement and seeks to optimize the use of services available in the City of Health, strengthening the quality of care provided to patients.
