The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Panama, José Emilio Moreno, officially launched his candidacy for the rectorship with a proposal focused on the regionalization of academic offerings and the strengthening of global competitiveness. Moreno proposed creating specific university careers in regional centers to respond to the needs of each province, reduce the displacement of students to the central campus, and boost strategic sectors such as the agricultural sector and regional development. The candidate also suggested a greater university-business linkage through applied research, theses, and continuous professional practices aimed at solving problems in the national productive sector. The rectoral elections are scheduled for July 1st.
