Seven Rescued After Vessel Capsizes Off Panama Coast

The ordeal lasted for hours, but ended with relief. Seven people experienced moments of pure terror when the vessel they were in capsized in Costa Arriba, Colón, leaving them at the mercy of the sea this weekend. The alert was triggered when the incident was reported via the emergency line 108, which enabled a rapid response from the National Aeronaval Service (AERONAVAL). From the Third Aeronaval Region, agents aboard the BPC-3811 vessel set out without delay to the scene of the accident. Upon being located, the seven citizens were found taking refuge on a rock, clinging to life in an area known as "Piedra Farallón." At sea, a moment of carelessness can be costly… and there isn't always a second chance. From there, they were rescued and taken to a safe port, specifically to the La Guaira pier in the corregimiento of Isla Grande, in the district of Portobelo. After the rescue, an AERONAVAL patrol transported them to Portobelo, where they received evaluation and medical attention. The report confirmed what everyone was hoping to hear: they were stable and without significant injuries. Following the incident, AERONAVAL issued a clear and direct call to those who go out to sea: adhere to safety measures, check the condition of vessels, review weather conditions, and report any risky situations to line 108.
