On May 2nd, the richness of the Congo culture will once again be felt in the streets and bay of the historic community of Portobelo, in Costa Arriba de Colón. It has been detailed that this will be the setting for the seventh edition of the Congo Pollera Festival. This event will exalt the attire, identity, and living heritage of the Congo culture, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Every year, this cultural festival attracts nationals, visitors, researchers, social media, and lovers of Afro-Antillean traditions. The festival promises an explosion of color, history, and ancestral pride, where the Congo pollera becomes a symbol of resistance, creativity, and cultural expression. At this event, visitors are offered the rich gastronomy by the descendants of blacks brought from Africa, who are considered creators of dishes rich in seafood. This is combined with presentations of the Congo dances, with all their characters full of symbolism.
