Advances in the National Logistics Strategy of Panama

The Logistics Cabinet of Panama met to discuss progress in creating a national logistics strategy, promoting the country as a regional transport platform.


The Logistics Cabinet held its second ordinary meeting for the period 2024-2029, where progress towards the development of a national logistics strategy was evaluated and the importance of promoting the country as an intermodal transport platform was established.

In the meeting, which took place in the Paz Hall of the Palace of the Herons, participated state ministers, presidential advisors, administrators, managers, secretaries, directors of public institutions related to the logistics sector, and representatives of the private sector. Juan Carlos Orillac, Minister of the Presidency, led the meeting and emphasized that President José Raúl Mulino seeks to strengthen logistics as a strategic pillar for national development, promoting initiatives that consolidate Panama's position as a regional leader in connectivity and competitiveness.

During the meeting, Jorge Barnett from Georgia Tech Panama presented details on the National Logistics Strategy 2030, while presidential advisor Alberto Alemán Zubieta shared information about the Master Plan for the Panama Logistics Hub.

The session also analyzed potential advances to expand the national logistics platform, examined the role of the Panama Canal as an articulator of the Logistics Hub, and discussed progress in the implementation of the Panama-Costa Rica Customs Logistics Integration Program (PILA) and the application of Law 51, which regulates cargo transport. The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) provided detailed information about the Foreign Trade and Logistics Technological Portal (PORTCEL) during the session coordinated by the Secretariat of Economic Affairs and Competitiveness of the Presidency of the Republic, led by Kristelle Getzler.
