A taxi driver was shot and killed in Panama today at approximately 11:30 a.m. He was traveling in his vehicle when he was fired upon on the road leading to the El Martillo sector, just behind the central headquarters of the San Miguelito Municipality. As a result of the shooting, the taxi driver died at the wheel, and the vehicle rolled, ending up in a ditch on the side of the road where it collided with part of the sidewalk of a house. The body was found on the passenger side, as the taxi was tilted, so a block was placed under it to prevent it from tipping over. A woman who was inside the taxi during the attack was unharmed and, for unknown reasons, left the scene. The incident shocked residents of the Amelia Denis de Icaza area, as a police substation, Rolando Martínez, is located very nearby, making such bloody events a frequent occurrence.
