Panama - Three people were apprehended last night in the San Miguelito district, after being accused of the alleged aggravated embezzlement against the Amelia Denis de Icaza community board, for over five million dollars. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Police carried out several investigative procedures in Villa Lucre and Santa Librada, after an audit report issued by the Comptroller General of the Republic reflected an impact of $5,585,650.36, due to alleged irregularities in the handling of public funds. These funds had been allocated to said community board for the Social Interest Development Program (PDIS), during the period from 2019 to 2024. Now, the suspects will have to face charges against them for the crime against Public Administration, in the form of aggravated embezzlement, while the Public Ministry must demonstrate that it was they who committed the millionaire injury to the National Treasury.
